A Leeds-based housebuilder recently hosted a sports spectacular to raise funds for local children’s charity, Zarach.
Held at The Met Hotel in Leeds city centre, Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Evening of Sport included musical and comedy performances, as well as a talk from special guest and former Northen Irish national footballer, Keith Gillespie.
In addition to the entertainment, a sports memorabilia auction was also held with signed items from Gillespie, Leeds Rhinos and many more, raising over £19,000 for the charity.
Zarach, a charity that helps children across West Yorkshire, started in 2017 when a primary school teacher, Bex Wilson, rallied friends and family together to help provide beds for three pupils who were previously sleeping on a sofa cushion. Since then, the charity has provided over 17,000 beds to those in need, helping them to get a good night’s sleep and a chance to thrive at school.
Rachael Winder, Business and Corporate Partnerships Manager at Zarach, said: “It’s great to have partnerships like the one we’ve had with Barratt and David Wilson who are committed to our mission here at Zarach. The room at the Met Hotel looked incredible and was a true testament to the hard work put in by the charity committee.”
Also in attendance at the fundraiser were players from Castleford Tigers, who donated a framed signed jersey, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the club and Barratt and David Wilson Homes.
Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “We were delighted to support Zarach and the vital work it does through this amazing event.
“Our Evening of Sport was an overwhelming success, made possible by the tireless efforts of everyone involved. I would like to personally thank everyone who played their part, and I couldn’t be prouder of the final amount raised for the charity.”
