Dirty Business Comes to Leeds

6 August @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Free

The public have had little say in the water sector crisis, despite being the funders, and also being the victims of pollution, poor planning, and service failures.

The Sewage Campaign Network in collaboration with lead campaigner Ilkley Clean River Group are holding a public event with the real people featured in Dirty Business – the acclaimed docudrama about the sewage scandal, private finance and regulatory incompetence. The event will be chaired by Jo Bullman the producer, and clips from Dirty Business will be shown alongside a discussion between the panel and the Yorkshire Mayors, with a public Q&A.

This month we have news of the scandal of another environmental downgrade of Yorkshire Water to the lowest possible, the economic regulator classifying Yorkshire Water as ‘lagging behind’ with the CEO expressing for the 3rd year running her disappointment in her company’s performance whilst taking a salary increase and a separate bonus payment from the shareholders. This has to stop.
Ash Smith and Peter Hammond as well as Rob Forrester (the EA whistleblower) and Cliff Roney (the Thames water worker) form the Dirty Business panel, and there will be plenty of time for the public to ask questions and express their outrage at the state of our waters and the lack of real action by government to protect our environment and secure value for money for bill payers. We expect Tracy Brabin and Oliver Coppard to call for Yorkshire Water to be put under public control.
The event is free and members of the public will be able to ask questions and pressure our elected representatives to do more to save our rivers, lakes and seas.
