YorPower, a leading provider of power backup solutions based in Sherburn in Elmet, has successfully safeguarded critical educational infrastructure through rapid deployment of an emergency uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system at a prominent Yorkshire college.

When the college’s existing Emerson APM 120KVA UPS developed a fault mid-term, leaving critical servers vulnerable to data loss during power fluctuations, YorPower responded with an immediate rental solution while implementing a permanent fix.

“Educational institutions increasingly rely on digital infrastructure for everything from student records to online learning platforms,” said a spokesperson for YorPower. “When backup power systems fail, the potential for data loss creates significant operational risks that can affect hundreds or thousands of students.”

The emergency response included the rapid deployment of a 120KVA Riello MST UPS on hire, complete with 90Ah batteries, ensuring continuous protection for the institution’s data centre during the critical academic period.

Following the temporary installation, YorPower’s technical team completed a permanent three-day installation of a Riello S3T 120KVA UPS with enhanced battery capacity and network monitoring capabilities. The project included upgrading connection cables between the UPS and bypass systems to accommodate the new configuration.

To ensure long-term reliability, the college has implemented a biannual maintenance programme, reflecting the growing trend among educational institutions to adopt proactive approaches to critical infrastructure management.

The successful project highlights the increasing dependence of educational establishments on reliable power protection systems as digital transformation continues across the sector.
